FULL CAREER HISTORY

 Objective

I have had a lifetime of experience with media services and computers, a good eye for design and layout have helped in the production of multimedia educational artwork using a variety of Microsoft packages and training of individuals and groups in the use of such systems.  Other projects have included analogue and digital recording and cataloguing of archive material, I can produce high quality artwork.  I am experienced in the operation and maintenance of u-matic video editing equipment including downstream keying and tele-cine transfer.   I have published a monthly technical web journal and regularly update my website at www.studio19.co.uk with hints and tips on site design and the latest multimedia software links and down loads.  It is my objective to smooth out the technology barrier; this has a positive effect and also increases efficiency.

Audiovisual Aids Technician

Educated in Physics and lab work I progressed to Media Services at Hammersmith and West London College.  Improved archive database capacity and dealt with staff requests for ordering, photocopying and projecting films.  Designed new products with various desk top publishing packages to help increase learning potential for foreign students and those with special needs.

 

Media Resources   (Inner London Education Authority)

As an Audio Visual Aids Technician I was part of the team responsible all levels of documentary and educational artwork production at Hammersmith and West London College responsibilities included updating various stock and information data bases, final document production from draft copy, brochure design, page layout, laser scanning and offset printing to a high quality colour finish.


The College also contained a large semi professional television studio.  I offered instruction to small groups of students on the technical processes of video production, Umatic and VHS editing.  The studio hosted off-air data transfer with CCTV distribution throughout the college. Freelance projects included instruction in the use of camera work, mixing desks, Umatic / VHS editing and electronic downstream keying of special effects and subtitles. I regularly ordered and projected popular films from the BFI for the student’s union film evenings.

Technical Service Engineer

Analogue to digital conversion of hospital records and x-ray data for the Brompton Hospital's MR Unit covering London and the southwest.

Managed Toshiba service centre helpdesk and after sales support. Implemented customer data backup and recovery processes.

 

 

Micros for Managers   (IBM and Toshiba authorised dealers)

Micros for Managers were a large Toshiba computer dealership in West London I was solely responsible for the handling of customer data backup and PC repairs in the well-equipped service centre including the ordering and return of parts within warranty service level agreements.
After-sales services include manning a 24 hour help-line to support customers.
I had responsibility for the magnetic resonance unit contract of the Royal Brompton Hospital, all data and document presentation had to reflect a formal corporate image.

 

1991–1994

ACT - Network Si, West Midlands
Field Service Computer Engineer

Completed Compaq technical certification.
Moved from general field service to prestigious Network Si contract.
Expanded Microsoft software support role to product specialist.

ACT Computer Support   (Network Si)

ACT is a large multinational company based in the Home Counties, they specialise in all forms of computer support and offer a very comprehensive training program.
The 'Network Si' division was formed to deal exclusively with the London Underground contract; I was one of a team of six special field service engineers involved in all kinds of multimedia hard/software set-up and troubleshooting.
London Underground use Compaq and Microsoft products exclusively on many sites across London, I was involved in the main installation of the South Colonnade site at docklands.

Received IBM authorised service certification.
Expanded business potential and data handling with the Reed Employment chain, Timberland, Tupperware and Air India.
Developed customer relations with the Entertainment UK Group’s control systems for audio cassette and CD distribution.

ATM   (Technology Management)

ATM offer specialist maintenance contracts to large chain companies such as Mowlem Construction, Reed Employment, Grand Metropolitan and Ford. 
Special services included countrywide inventories formal corporate document layout and archiving plus extensive equipment upgrade programs and desktop publishing instruction.

 

1996–2000   BBC London.  
Site Service Engineer and Home User Co-coordinator

Gained experience at BBC Television Centre Complex,
BBC White City and BBC World Service - Bush House.
Provided hard/software support on BBC remote sites.
Co-ordinated and supported home user installs and pamphlet ting.
Supported the Windows 95 BBC Desktop roll out at Bush House.
Accepted present role as Technical Resources Administrator.

 

 

2000 to Date at the BBC with various third party managing companies

 

 

 

I provide a comprehensive maintenance service to the BBC, I have had experience at Bush House where I managed the on-site IT facilities.

More recently I have been based at the BBC Television Centre site where I have utilised my good proof reading and document editing skills to provided draft copy and spreadsheets for management meetings, I have designed an integrated data base for company wide use by service engineers and now hold the position of national tech services coordinator for London and the regions.

I meet with the various line managers and engineers to provide a comprehensive logistics coordination service for BBC hardware repairs across the UK.

I have designed a large database to assist the flow of parts and distribution of information around the country, repair progress is reported on the Siemens SAP call logging system.

Although the BBC is a large organisation with many employees one must never lose sight of the need for focused individual customer care to quickly resolve difficult situations.
